On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
Hello Pack 30! We’re into November and we have several fun activities coming up:
Placement of Flags in observance of Veterans Day on November 10th:
Join other Mount Diablo Silverado Council Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to pay reverence to Veterans by placing American Flags on the graves of those who made the greatest sacrifice for their country.
Our Committee Chair Anne Marx will be there to greet Pack 30 Cub Scouts and Akelas.
Location is Rolling Hills Memorial Park at 4100 Hilltop Drive in El Sobrante / Richmond.
Opening Flags lead by the Boy Scouts are at 8 am, meet Anne earlier at 7:40 for a morning snack.
Participating in this satisfies Service Project requirements for several belt loops (Tigers – Team Tiger Adventure; Bears – Duty to God) AND all Cub Scouts who attend will be awarded a Service Patch for their Brag Vests!
If you are interested please email Anne Marx so that she can plan to meet you.
Scouting for Food November 10th and 17th:
Remember to start distributing your Scouting for Food door hangers this weekend. A tip is to staple a bag to the hanger so it’s easier for the neighbors.
Collect the food and deliver to School of the Madeleine (1225 Milvia Street in North Berkeley) on Saturday November 17th from 9:30 to 1:30. Enter the school parking lot off of Berryman Street.
Berkeley Hills Historic Rock Hike November 17th:
Our Hike Master Ethan Ligon has planned a really fun local hike.
We’ll be leaving School of the Madeleine at 1 pm (which could work perfect with dropping off your Scouting for Food bags).
We’ll hike from the Madeleine along a really nice loop that takes the Berkeley Hills paths and stairs up past a bunch of the funny little rock parks in North Berkeley including Indian Rock, Mortar Rock, Grotto Rock, and Cragmont Rock Park. Three miles total.
Holiday Pot Luck at Herms Lodge December 10th:
Our December Pack meeting we’ll be getting into the spirit of the Holidays with food, crafts, songs, and games.
I hope that everyone is having a seamless transition from Summer to the new School Year. Cub Scout activities resume in September, and we’ve finalized the calendar through December of 2018. Please see attached for your reference. We’ll provide a Spring Calendar towards the end of the year, we still need to finalize a few dates.
As a reminder we have the following upcoming events in September: September 4th, 7 pm at Epworth Church is the first Planning Meeting to review the schedule of events and further planning for the scout year. Den Leader and others with registered positions must attend, as well as Akelas interested in helping to plan, organize, or participate in the pack. Please come to help out, the more the merrier!
Join Pack 30 along with Boy Scout Troops 19, 24, and 6 in the Scout Parade at the Solano Stroll on Sunday, September 9th. I will provide final details on meeting time and point, but we are typically in place and ready to parade down Solano 30 minutes before the parade begins at 10 am
And last but not least the first Berkeley Cub Scouts Pack 30 Pack Meeting will be Monday, September 24th, 6:45 Opening Flag Ceremony at John Hinkel Park Amphitheater in the Berkeley Hills. The park is at 41 Somerset Place in Berkeley. Parking is somewhat limited, so if you can carpool that would be easier.
This should be a great year for Pack 30! Please reach out to me if you have any question

Cubmaster Message
Thank you for letting me serve as your Cubmaster for the past two years. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience. I started my Scouting experience in 1978 with Pack 386(Lancaster, OH), earned my Arrow of Light In 1981 and Eagle Scout with Troop 141 in 1988.
Until I became Cubmaster, I thought that the Eagle Rank was the coolest because it represented the completion of the Scouting journey. Now, I know that Bobcat is; it represents the beginning of a great journey for our youth and us.
We had a great over-nighter on the Air Craft Carrier Hornet this weekend. Many thanks to Sara Knight Butt for coordinating this outstanding event!
